- Change in PhD Admission Process: The UGC has announced a significant change in the process of PhD admissions, eliminating the requirement for university entrance exams.
- Admission Based on NET Scores: PhD admissions will now be based on the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores.
- Categories for NET Qualifiers: NET qualifiers will be categorized into three groups: Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3.
- Eligibility for Category 1: Candidates with the highest NET scores will be placed in Category 1 and will be eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), assistant professorship roles, and direct PhD admission with fellowship.
- Interview for Category 1 Candidates: Candidates in Category 1 will undergo an interview for PhD admission, as per UGC regulations.
- Eligibility for Category 2: Candidates with high percentages but not the top ranks will be placed in Category 2, considered for assistant professorship positions and PhD admissions.
- Eligibility for Category 3: Candidates who clear the NET but with lower percentages will be placed in Category 3.
- Weightage for PhD Admissions: The net percentage of candidates in Categories 2 and 3 will carry 70% weightage, while the interview component will account for the remaining 30%.
- Validity of NET Scores: NET scores in both categories will be valid for one year only. Failure to enroll in the PhD program within this timeframe will render candidates ineligible.
- Requirement for Retaking NET: Candidates will be required to retake the NET examination if they miss the enrollment window.
